"Fidelio, Beethoven's only opera, is a searing tale of love, couple with the
triumph of freedom over oppression.”
"Beethoven struggled for eight years to produce his only opera, Fidelio. It
was performed before the crowned heads of Europe at the Congress of Vienna
in 1814, and has remained in the repertoire ever since. Its story of how
true love will always triumph, coupled with the inevitable defeat of
political oppression, is as relevant today as when Beethoven composed it two
centuries ago."
