Nula Suchet

Dementia – Author, Speaker and Campaigner

Nula Suchet is author of The Longest Farewell, the heartbreaking story of how she lost her husband to an aggressive form of dementia. James Black was a successful television writer-director. They met on location in Africa and spent twenty-two blissful years together before he was diagnosed with Pick’s Disease, a form of rare dementia. James died in 2014.

The Longest Farewell chronicles more than a decade of living with a loved one slowly succumbing to dementia, and highlights in vivid detail the lack of support for those having to cope with inexorable loss. It’s also about how despair turned into happiness, a story which will inspire anyone who finds themselves trapped in the quagmire of dementia. Nula met and is now married to Classic FM presenter and former newscaster, John Suchet. John lost his beloved wife to dementia.

Now both Nula and John campaign vigorously to improve support for those caring for loved ones with dementia. She is an Ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK, and Rare Dementia Support.

The film rights for The Longest Farewell have been acquired.
