Audiences have welcomed Des into their living rooms for decades – whether as a charismatic pundit on This Morning, a sharp social commentator on The Wright Stuff, or a guest vocalist on Vanessa. Yet it was acting that first brought him national acclaim.

His standout four-year portrayal of the lovable rogue Lenny Wallace in EastEnders – during the show’s BAFTA-winning era – firmly established him as a household name. He has also appeared in acclaimed dramas including Casualty and Doctors, showcasing a depth and authenticity that continues to define his work.

Film Accolades and International Recognition

Des’s screen success extends powerfully into film. He starred in the groundbreaking Is Harry on the Boat?, later adapted into a Sky television series, and appeared alongside Sam Neill in the wartime drama Submerged. His performance in Simple earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Santa Monica Film Festival, further cementing his international reputation.

The Broadcaster Who Made us Love the Weather

Joining the BBC in 2007, Des trained at the Met Office before becoming one of the UK’s most beloved weather presenters – winning a Royal Television Society Award for his work. Known as “the man who could make even the dampest days feel worth waiting for”, he quickly built a loyal following.

He went on to work as a reporter for BBC East Midlands Today, a presenter on The Politics Show and Inside Out, and spent three years on the BBC’s flagship programme The One Show.

After joining ITV, Des became the face of weather for ITV Central and Good Morning Britain, earning two further Royal Television Society Awards.
